Abstract: Coaching and counseling are key techniques for helping employees attain their best performance, but many managers don’t understand the difference between the two. If they know when each is really appropriate and how to use it, managers can help their employees reach new levels of efficiency and success. In this article, we examine how everyday coaching boosts performance, what makes an effective coach, when counseling is needed, and how coaching and counseling create change.
