Learn to Delegate

As a leader, time is your most precious commodity.  How do you spend this valuable resource?   Do you use time wisely, or do you duplicate effort by performing work that your direct reports or team could and should be doing?  Here’s a tip about how to spend your time and energy as a leader: Take a close look at everything that needs to be done in your group, and identify the work that only you can do – work that you can’t delegate to your team, because it requires your personal attention.  Then spend your time on these tasks, and “give away” everything else.  This simple exercise will clarify how you should be spending your time – and will ensure that you are making the most of your own efforts.
